Virginia Tech.
What a sad, horrible, and senseless incident. In watching CNN's coverage of the shooting, it leaves one with a feeling of deep sympathy for those involved.
What I found especially irksome, was that one could purchase a gun per month in Virginia. A gun a month. Twelve guns per year. Yet, it is not the gun that does the killing, it is the hand that clenches and then ulimately pulls the trigger. (Edit: I still don't agree with every Tom, Dick or Harry able to buy a gun, but that is off topic).
Suicide in itself is a desperate act. To inflict your own wrath, due to your own insecurities on innocent people around you, goes beyond desperation, and is beyond selfish. A twisted and perverse action.
Thirty two people snuffed out, because one person had a screw loose. A person who slipped through the cracks in a system and who should have been on the radar. Hindsight is 20/20.
So much potential lost. |
