Rambles

This morning, we braved the frigid elements and drove swiftly to Goderich. Looking over the sparkling terrain, even with the tinted windows, I could feel snow blindness coming on. It seems like this is the first day in a long time that the sun has shone and we might get a little natural vitamin D. There was even a fisherman in the Maitland River, close to the lake, as the river has not frozen yet. He was wearing the hip waders and a jacket, but the current of the river and the chunks of ice looked ominous. I honestly do not know how he was holding himself upright. Mad skill, I suppose.

As I dismounted from our van, a lady came up to me and said "Your chest is exposed, you should cover it, or you will get sick". I almost fell over with the sheer hilarity of the situation, as I was in mid button. It was something my Nana would say. Memories of Whooping Cough rushed through my head, and I recalled all of the undershirts I had to wear as a kid in the summer.

We were going to "The Bean" a wonderful cafe in Goderich, which has a really yummy salad dressing, their "house blend". Adam and I sat and had a coffee, they actually had soy milk, which I added to my cuppa. I had the most delicious muffin, with dried cranberries and orange.

Adam is back to work this evening, and although I miss him, I can get back to some normality. He is a distraction, a lovable one, but a distraction nonetheless. While the kids are off school, because we are housebound with puppies, I hope to get their rooms reamed out, and put all the stuff that they don't need up on Freecycle.

Last night, I used black eyed peas for good luck and made a salad with a light vinaigrette with salmon, romaine lettuce and the peas. It was pretty good, although probably not customary, the peas were included, and as an added bonus I used my 1880's Milk Bowl that is ironstone. It is not often that I pull that sucker out, but I love it, and the fluted edges make me happy.

More to say, and pictures to post, but later gator.
